Denim is one of the most popular fabrics in the world and is mainly used to make jeans . The origin of this fabric is disputed between two cities: Genoa and Nîmes. In the 15th century, in fact, a resistant blue cotton fabric (very similar to fustian) was produced in the city of Chieri - in the province of Turin - which was exported all over the world from the port of Genoa. This fabric became known as "Blu de Gênes" (Genoa Blue) because it was common practice to name fabrics after the city they came from; and it is from "Blu de Gênes" that the word " Blue Jeans " that we know today comes. During the 16th century, this fabric began to be widely spread throughout Europe, but it was not only produced in Chieri. In the French city of Nîmes, a very similar fabric was produced, which became famous as " denim ", from the words "De Nîmes". In modern language the two terms often tend to overlap, but the term "jeans" refers to the actual fabric, while the word "denim" refers to the shades of color that are obtained thanks to the various dyes and washing processes. Here you can find various types of jeans fabric that can be purchased by the meter, perfect for making many items of clothing: jeans pants, shirt jeans, fabric for denim jackets, denim skirts, denim dresses, etc.
